Let’s get one thing straight. Cutting hair is not easy. You need dexterity a good eye-hand coordination and a lot of passion. I wasn’t lying earlier.

In fact, it’s so hard that most people screw up their hair so bad that they are forced to wear baseball caps for the next few weeks this is no amateur game, I assure you.

Trust me; I do NOT want that for you!

That’s why I want to give you something special .This is something that is taught in the first 90 days of any cosmetology school and represents the very basics of cutting hair.

And it’s not hard at all just pay attention.

To cut hair like a professional hairstylist you just need to take advantage of three things:

1) Gravity – or how the hair falls on the head

2) Hair type – and why a haircut that might do wonders for one person is a curse for someone else

3) Head type – how to cut based on the shape and size of the head and where to start each time

It’s as easy as : 1 – 2 – 3

That’s what the stylist does each time you pay her $50.

You don’t need to know anything else because the more you know, the harder it will be for you to give a great haircut. Of course in those two years at a cosmetology school they learn a lot of things, but this is the essentials.

And once you learn this in just 30 minutes you’ll do wonders with scissors. Your friends will call you an artist while you’ll be cutting the hair with the precision of a scientist.

OK, so no this is not about me or a person, but aboutmy cat. She has had a bad cut on her left hock and we have beento numerous vets. Tomake a long story short, she is know doing bandages after having wet bandages to get out infection and everytime we take the cone off of her, she licks and licks and licks. She wont stop and it has gotten to ther point of missing hair, scabs on her female parts ( teats) and hiding from us well she is doing it ( she also trys to lick her leg, but it has a bandage on it, so shes not doing any harm to it). She never does anything else but lick once we initially take the cone off. Here is the weird part…. after a while she finally stops and calms down and then while watching her, she will get this weird twinge of god n\knows what and she jumps and starts attacking her leg, biting and licking. ( the leg withthe sore underneath) my mom thinks its because shes neurotic ( we are not quite sure if she is) but others think her scab is just drying up and falling off. PLZ HELP! I need to know if she is neurotic ( signs of the behaviour) or what is happening, and iff she is neurtoic, i dont wanna put her down as the drugs they offer keep her "stoned" so she wont be much of a cat! WHY IS SHE DOING THIS AND IS THERE SOMETHING WE COULD DO??? thx y’all

Make sure there is not infection underneath the previous wound. You need to look for redness, any swelling or bump, or tenderness. If there are scabs, they can be very itchy so she may very well be uncomfortable. Cats and dogs lick because it is natural for them to try to cleanse a wound in this manner, even though it may actually cause more irritation. Often they will tear a bandage off in order to get to the wound. Our dog even tore her stitches out when she was spayed, and did it more than once – she got her cone off one of the times.

If your cat had her wound covered up, she could not lick it and it may have either hurt or been itchy. When she could not take care of the wound and it still caused the discomfort, she probably just licked any part of her body she could reach due to the nervousness of the whole thing. If she could have reached the wound, she would have probably continued licking that and, likely, made it more infected.

Have you looked underneath the bandage? You have not said how long it has been on and I would seriously consider contacting the vet to have it looked at. If this bandage has been on for much time and not looked at, it could have infection underneath the bandage and that would cause her to do the things you are describing, or if the bandage is either uncomfortable or too tight, etc. A bandage in place for a length of time can be problematic if the wound is not being intermitantly checked. I would definitely contact the vet. I am not going to tell you to look under the bandage, but I have often done this. If you ultimately find out that the wound is not healing properly, it will need to be tended to. PLEASE contact the vet. She may be doing this because there is a problem. Tell the vet she is acting funny and you want to bring her in for a recheck as soon as possible to have the wound rechecked. Do not let the vet put you off – tell him you want her to come in that day. If there is any infection underneath the bandage, this will make an environment in which it can grow more quickly and would be a cause for concern.

My girl is getting a job in a barbers and she needs her own kit. What can I get for her? She wants to be able to cut hair as well as beards and really close as well, i.e shave close. Is it possible for one piece of kit to do both or will she need two different things?

wahl clippers are the best some of them come with a beard trimmer too but if she is leaning to cut thoat shave (awful name i know) then she needs a cut throat razor you can pick both up on ebay for a resonable price

As described in the accompanying style notes, the hair cut is an ivy league(long crew cut.)

The top hair is graduated in length longer to the front hairline. My guess is from about 1.75" at the front hairline to about 0.8" at the back of the crown. In addition it appears as if the outer part of the hair shafts on top have been texturized either clipper over comb where the clipper is fitted with a skip tooth blade or blending shears over comb. The sides are also not cut one length but tapered from about 3/8" at the upper sides to about 1/8" at the lower sides. Essentially th only cuts that are uniform in length on top and cut with the clipper guard pressed to the scalp are burr, butch and brush cuts. A burr is simply a butch cut at 1/8" or less on top and a brush cut is a butch cut at 1/2" or longer on top.

Some barbers describe an ivy league as a crew cut just long enough to be parted and combed to the side if so desired. An ivy league can also be worn with the hair brushed up off the forehead to form the short pomp front or with the short bangs brushed down on the forehead like a forward brush cut.

Grooming any of the short pomp styles- crew cut, ivy league, flat top crew cut- is basically the same and takes about a minute or two.
1) Towel dry hair.
2) Barely dip fingertips in jar of wax.
3)Transfer wax to palms.
4) Smooth palms over hair.
5)Brush hair off forehead to form short pomp front.
Whichever style you decide on, be sure to take a photo to help describe the desired haircut to the barber or stylist.
